Back To Ballroom is a Community Education dance class. Each class in this six week course offers two hours of no fault dance instruction teaching standard steps and techniques for waltz, polka, schottische, fox trot, and swing. Traditional New England folk dances will be used to demonstrate the basic elements of rhythm and style. No previous dance experience is necessary. Everyone is welcome to join the class with or without a dance partner. On December 31 the historic Petrell Hall hosts a traditional New Year's Eve Party. Petrell Hall, located in Brimson, Minnesota, is within one hour's driving distance of Virginia, Eveleth, Tower, Ely, Tofte, Duluth, and Two Harbors. Dance instruction at 7:00 PM demonstrates standard steps and techniques for traditional couple dances including waltz and polka and schottische. A traditional New England Town Hall Dance begins at 7:30 PM. This family friendly event is alcohol free and open to dancers of all ages.
Carol's Retirement Party on February 20, 2010, is a special occasion celebrating Carol Booth's thirty years of dedicated employment in the United States Forest Service. Family and friends from all parts of the country will be invited. Speeches and songs and skits will be included in the evening's schedule of events. Dinner will be served at 6:00 PM. Dancing will begin at 7:00 PM. Admission is free and open to the public.
The annual Irish Dance is scheduled on the Saturday in March closest to Saint Patrick's Day. Dance instruction is provided at 7:00 PM. The traditional Irish Ceili (kay-lee) Dance begins at 7:30 PM. The group dances are traditional Irish jigs and reels (including the Siege of Ennis and The Haymaker's Jig and The Waves of Tory) performed either in circles or in long parallel lines. The couple dances are traditional Irish waltzes and polkas and hornpipes. Throughout the evening, during the breaks between the dances, the band provides additional entertainment by playing traditional Irish ballads and airs.
