The big advantage of the stem cells in the umbilical cord is that apparently, these cells are first of all as pure as they can be because at the birth of the baby, these cells have not be changed by our life yet. Basically, as we grow and live our life, we could say that our DNA changes and these changes will affect the stem cells. If we get sick, then the stem cells will be contaminated by that disease depending on the disease of course. We are talking about something like diabetes, or different cancers.
